Finally! I found scrubs that actually fit me!
If you’ve met me, you know I have a smaller frame than the average person. I am also 5 foot 5in. I’ve been searching for scrubs to fit my unique frame since I started out in the healthcare profession almost 10 years ago. I have literally bought every brand out there at least once. But I recently found a NEW scrub company on Instagram. “BeneFIT medical apparel” liked a nursing post of mine and I headed over to check them out. They are a Veteran owned and operated company that developed medical scrubs to look like activewear! So up my alley! Honestly, the majority of scrubs out there look frumpy! I take pride in what I do for a living. I love being a nurse and I am always trying to be a better healthcare professional. I want my outward appearance to match that attitude.
Check out the Helix Style Women’s scrubs in the”Wine” color. (This is the mandated color of my Cardiac Floor) They also have a Helix Stealth style that is all one solid color and no black sides. They all come in 16 different colors, so I’m sure they have yours too!
Alright, my honest opinion is…….. I love these. But they aren’t perfection (for me). They are breathable, but I did find myself getting cold in the hospital. On slower days where I wasn’t running around the floor, I had to slip on my sweater. I do wish the pant hems had a bit more flare to it. As a woman I think it would look even more flattering if the pants had a slight flare to balance out my wide (post 2 babies) hips. I could stand the sleeves to fit more snug on my thin arms. Or maybe I could do more push ups? Eh, I’ll just do more yoga.
On the more positive side, the pocket space in incredible. I counted 10 pockets. I was so thankful for the drawstring pants that stays up all shift but weren’t so tight that I went home with elastic lines around my waist. I washed the scrub set, dried them in the dryer and left them in a laundry basket overnight. A miracle happened, they never wrinkled! I also spilled coffee down my pant leg (happens more often that I’d like to admit) and 2 minutes later I looked down to where the stain should be. It was gone! These scrubs are liquid resistant. Keep this fact in mind when you consider all the biohazard fluids we could be exposed to. Lastly, I was impressed by the stretch of the material. I sat, I ran, I walked, I did compressions, I bend down to check chest tube output, I reached up IV poles, and I never felt constricted by the scrubs.
Ok, lets talk price. They are $35 per piece (top or bottom). This isn’t cheap, these aren’t Walmart prices. But have you ever bought scrubs at Walmart? With BeneFIT medical, you get what you pay for. Think about all the hours you are spending in these scrubs. If you work full time in healthcare, you will be wearing scrubs for over 2,000 hours per year!
A good pair of scrubs is an investment. Right?
