Stress and anxiety are the silent poisons of today.
People seem to be under more pressure than ever before. Stress goes hand in hand with anxiety. Stress is that strain or tension you FEEL hanging over your head relating to the burdens of your life. You can feel it physically, emotionally, mentally or all 3. This can reak havock on the body. Your heartbeat and blood pressure increases, you breathe faster, your muscles tense/shorten, your mouth goes dry, and you sweat more. Being “stressed” can effect your appetite, your sleep, your nerves, depress your immune system, affect your sex life, and make you feel constantly tired and worn out. Everyone has difficulties in their lives, whether it’s a rainstorm or an earthquake.
But you can overcome this stress and anxiety. The best way that I have found to personally combat the “hard times” is fresh air and exercise. I go outside and unroll my yoga mat. The physical movement of the yoga stretches and the mental soothing of the breathing is the perfect combo. Here are 5 yoga poses that are clinically proven over and over to reduce stress and anxiety. (stay in each pose for at least 2 minutes, breathing deeply in through your nose and out through your mouth.)
1. Tree Pose (Vrikasana)
2. Warrior 3 (Virabhadrasana III)
3. Half Pigeon (Eka Pada Reajakapotasana)
4. Half Lord of the Fishes (Ardha Matsyendrasana)
5. Childs pose (Balasana)
Don’t let the weight of this world pull you down. Don’t you want to be rid of stress and anxiety? Remember that your Lord and Savior Jesus has already overcome the world. Pray for peace and silently meditate on verses like John 16:33.
Happy posing everyone!
