This is my daughter at 1 yrs old, with my stethoscope.
As Nurses week comes to a close I wanted to highlight the importance of this respected profession that I take so much pride in.
Nurses save lives, every shift. Without our critical thinking and detective skills – you might not make it out of the hospital. We give you all your medications, we direct and plan your care, we are the eyes and ears of the Doctor, we are by your side when you come in not breathing, go into cardiac arrest, or have life threatening infections – then…. with our own two hands – we bring you back to a healthier state -out of that dark place. We shake your hand after we give you discharge papers and see you safety out the door. It’s a beautiful thing.
Excerpt from the Florence Nightingale Nursing Pledge:
I solemnly pledge myself before God and in the presence of this assembly, to pass my life in purity and to practice my profession faithfully.
Happy birthday Florence Nightingale! And Happy Nurses week to all my fellow superheroes!
