Let’s say you are on holiday with your kids at a sunny beachy location.
Maybe your sunburnt kids need some time indoors.
Maybe its raining outside.
When you want to take a break from the beach, but don’t want to turn on the tv…these are the 3 things I did with my kiddos.
1. Make Sand Slime – take a cup of sand from the beach (the dryer the better). Add sand and two bottles of Elmers glue in a bowl. Mix really well. Add 1/2 cup of liquid starch. Mix well for a minute and let it sit for another minute. Then pick it up and PLAY! It has the consistency of GAK. Kids love it! And it’s a clean safe indoor way to play with sand. Keep it in a large ziplock when your not playing with it. It will last about a week – so bring it home! (Ok in all seriousness the adults almost had more fun with this than the kids. Its so addicting to play with!)
2. Flower crowns/Nature crowns for boys. The gathering of the materials is the fun part of this activity. Take a long walk or stroller ride and let them gather flowers and leaves and twigs. Weave together some palm leaves for the base. These leaves tie and braid well together. Then in the holes of the braid insert the flowers, feathers, leaves or whatever you find!
3. Theater of the Sea -If you are staying near Islamorada and need kid friendly activities without risking a sunburn – try out the “Theater of the Sea”. It’s sort of a shaded mini sea world. It has Dolphin, Sea Lion, Bird shows. It has a glass bottom boat tour and a snorkel beach where you can swim with tons of parrot fish. For an extra fee you can with with Dolphins and Sharks! Check it out.
