If you have ever been to Walt Disney World and had the pleasure of dining at “Ohana at the Polynesian Village Resort” you probably had the bread pudding. Everyone recommends this. Every time I’ve been there the waiter or waitress suggests it and all the other tables are feasting on this dessert. So what’s the hype? It’s the most decadent dessert in all of Walt Disney World! That’s the hype!
When I’m not inside Disney World, I do reminisce about about the fun rides & shows. But I mostly miss the food! The bread pudding from ‘Ohana is one of my top foods to try in Disney World! Are you wondering , “‘How do I make Ohana Bread Pudding at home?“. I’ve got you covered my friend! Straight from the chef himself at the resort restaurant. I’ve typed it out here for you. Let’s get started. I promise I won’t make this too long!
For the actual bread pudding you will need, 5 eggs, 3 cups of whole milk, 1/2 tsp of salt, 1/2 tsp of nutmeg, 1.5 cups of sugar, 8 cups of french bread. Here it is in bullet points for easier reading.
3 cups whole milk
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1 1/2 cup sugar
8 cups french bread for ‘Ohana breakfast bread.
To recreate the Banana’s Foster Sauce you will need sugar, brown sugar, corn syrup, unsalted butter, heavy cream, vanilla extract, spiced rum, bananas sliced. Here it is in bullet points for easier reading with measurements. To help you measure 4oz is a little less than 1/2 a cup. It’s like .48 of a cup.
4 oz sugar
4 oz brown sugar
4 oz corn syrup
4 oz unsalted butter
1 cup heavy cream
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup spiced rum
1 cup banana slices
How to Cook it
Now let’s take these ingredients and make a bread pudding! In bowl mix eggs, milk, salt, sugar, and nutmeg. Set aside. Cut bread in medium (usually 2-inch) pieces and place on cookie sheet pan. Put in 350 degree oven. Bake bread until lightly toasted: about 15 minutes. Remove bread and place in egg and milk mixture. Place mixture in a greased 10-inch cake pan, and bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour. Let stand 5 minutes. Combine sugar, brown sugar, corn syrup, butter, and half of heavy cream in a large pan. Bring to a boil and slowly add remaining heavy cream keeping mixture at a steady boil. Add spiced rum. Candy will brown slightly; cook 3 minutes until candy forms into a firm ball in cold water. Remove from heat and add vanilla. Add sliced bananas. Serve warm over the pudding. Top with Vanilla Ice Cream and ENJOY!
How to Eat it
I do not suggest saving left overs in the fridge for later, unless you keep the sauce and pudding separate. It still tastes delicious when chilled, but I love it WARM. Keep the pudding and sauce separate and combine when serving. The ice cream on top is totally optional, but come one, who doesn’t love a scoop of ice cream on top of anything?
