Hayley Atwell was one of the first celebrity actresses we interviewed for Christopher Robin. She set the tone for the whimsy and heartfelt labor that we would learn was put into this film.

She had a hilarious story as to how she became involved in this movie. She was on vacation, on a boat, in Greece. Her agent called her and said Marc Foster is going to director Christopher Robin. He wants to Skype with you. She said of course! But the reception on a boat in the middle of the aegean ocean is not ideal for a Skype call! So she asked the captain (who was a local) how a Skype call could be feasible. He suggested to her she put on a life jacket, ride a jet ski 10 minutes in a certain direction and then try to call. She snapped on that life jacket, tucked her phone under the vest, and sped off on the jet ski. When she was far out in the middle of the aegean ocean, she took her phone out and Skyped Marc Forster. He answered. She greeted him with “Welcome to my office!” and panned the greek waters beside her. Laughter erupted throughout the room when she told us this story!

This is the light hearted gem that plays Christopher Robins Wife, Evelyn Robin in Disney’s Christopher Robin. She was an excellent choice for this role. Hayley delivers the character of Evelyn with strength and a gentle kindness. Evelyn is a loving mother to the daughter Madelyn (played by Bronte Carmichael) who is upset with her father at times. Evelyn Robin is a supportive but independent wife to an emotionally lost Christopher Robin (played by Ewan McGregor). Evelyn doesn’t meet Christopher Robins struggles with whining or resentment, although she feels left behind. Evelyn knows that their relationship was based on true joy and love and he will come around. She is a character that is selfless without being taken advantage of. She is very tough but gracious. I wish Hollywood would portray more women in this way! Great job Hayley Atwell!
We (the invited bloggers) had all seen the movie the night before and Hayley confessed that she has seen it by herself earlier. Hayley said she was glad she was by herself because she started crying in the opening credits! She said this about the film as a whole, “What I felt coming out of it was a feeling of ‘What a wonderful antidote this film is at the moment!’ Because without it being too sentimental it’s quite profound.”
She continued to praise the early books and the script of Christopher Robin as being full of proudly simplistic wisdom. She loved how this movie remained classic and didn’t try anything left field with the characters because they are complete in themselves. You could tell she had loved the Winnie the Pooh adventures long before she took this role.
Hayley Atwell’s happy personality and humor is an integral part of all the characters intertwining throughout the film.

Hayley Atwell elaborated on the wisdom and message of the film. She said “It’s basically saying that you are enough and I just want to hang out with you as you are.” Wow, doesn’t that make you smile? Isn’t that what we are all looking for? In life and love? I completely agree that this movie is “refreshing” in the times we are living in now.
