The first announcement came out in May that Disney is officially reopening this summer! Wellโฆkinda. The parks will open later but the outdoor mall “Disney Springs” will have a soft opening with limited capacity in May 2020. This is phase 1 of Disney World reopening and I couldnโt be more excited. This is what we know so far.
What is Phase 1 & Disney Springs | Is Disney Open?
Disney Springs is a huge semi-outdoor mall with lots of shade and every store you’ll ever need! It opens daily at 10am. Parking & entrance is free!
I was at Disney Springs for opening day on May 2020. It was a wonderful vibe! Everyone was excited to be back on Disney property. Everyone was being respectful of each other and maintaining 6 feet. I saw everyone wearing a mask as they walked around. Here’s a video about how it all went!

Disney Springs (formerly known as Downtown Disney – which is a much more appropriate title.) is best known for itโs incredible restaurants. I have a video of the top 5 resturarants when my husband and I did a fun appetizer / bar crawl – come watch it!
What We Can Do As Guests | Is Disney Open? | Disney New Rules
There are a few things we can do on our part to comply with new safety measure as we navigate this pandemic. The parking will be limited and partially blocked.
As a guest you will need to expect temperature checks on everyone in your party when you enter Disney Springs. If anyone in your party has a temper above 100.4 then you will be asked to leave as well as everyone else in your group.
Do I have to wear a mask in Disney World? Yes! Expect to wear a mask during your visit to Disney World. You can buy masks anywhere now – or even make your own. But you must have your nose and mouth covered. This is to keep yourself safe and others safe. The masks will be required for any and all guests over the age of 2.
Cloth masks Vs Paper Masks: Cloth masks works just fine, but in hotter weather I suggest the paper masks:
What is Disney Doing to Keep Us Safe? |Is Disney Open? | Disney New Rules
Here is a chart that the Disney released to help us understand what to expect when you visit.
Disney is changing a few things in efforts to keep guests safe as Disney reopens. There will be limited & reduced parking. There will also be reduced operating hours. Cashless payment is encouraged, so please use your Disney app or your credit card. The overall allowed capacity will be lower. This goes for Disney Springs, The Parks and all stores and restaurants.
Cast Members will have limited contact with guests. There will be more employees focusing on cleanliness and sanitizing surfaces.
There have been more hand washing and hand sanitizer stations installed all around Disney. Remember that these are initial measures. Iโm sure they will evolve as the situation evolves.
My Opinion on the New Guidelines for Disney Reopening | Is Disney Open? | Disney New Rules
Side note and my personal opinion: I can only imagine how in the middle of June, walking around Disney Springs, anyone and everyone may reach a surface temperature of 100.4. But we will see how they handle that!
I can really appreciate any measure Disney implements to keep the public safe. But honestly, I am so excited for the reopening of Disney World Resort Parks and Property. I have awaited this announcement with great anticipation. I hope to be there July 11th at the gate!
There is hope my Disney friends! Donโt worry, the world will open up again. Society will stabilize, the virus will run itโs course and SOMEDAY – we will bounce back from this. I do predict a complete turn around! People will be dying to go to restaurants and parks and concerts.
Donโt you miss the energy of a crowd? Remember the goosebumps you would get when the whole crowd gasps at the climax of the fireworks: Happily Ever After? Epic. And we will be back again – even more fantastic than before! Disney is open, July 11th!
I am anxiously awaiting the opening but am also apprehensive about flying to Disney to get there. Flying feels more risky than visiting the parks. But soon enough I hope to get the family back down to Orlando for some of the special Disney Magic! Weโve been missing it!
