Dumbo Again?
As you can see from this beautiful & simple poster, Disney has decided to reimagine the 1941 classic Dumbo! The story will retold by the talented and peculiar director (and my personal favorite) Tim Burton! He is known for Edward Scissorhands, Beatlejuice, Alice in Wonderland 2010, Corpse Bride, and Nightmare Before Christmas! You know this version of Dumbo will be visually stunning.
Who is in the movie?
Along with our favorite little elephant Dumbo, there will be some serious star power to this movie. The film will include Colin Farrell, Michael Keaton, Danny DeVito, and many more.
Colin Farrell will play character Holt Farrier. He is a war veteran who has lost an arm in battle. He is a former circus star who is hired to care for the newborn elephant who his two children befriend. They adopt this little elephant and a beautiful friendship develops.
I love to see Danny DeVito back in a Ring Masters Costume for Dumbo! He did a stellar job as a circus master in my favorite movie Big Fish in 2003. Which was also coincidentally directed by Tim Burton!
Movie Plot
Everyone knows the original story of little Dumbo who is a young elephant born with oversized ears. These ears are seen as a deformity at first but then over time, he discovers that his ears enable him to FLY. In this movie, the circus is struggling. The Circus plans a new project in efforts to revitalize it. Dumbo and his friends uncover some dark secrets within those shiny carnival tents. #plottwist
Why is this movie special to me personally?
Dumbo has always held a special place in my heart. As a child I had huge ears that stuck out sideways. The kids at school used to call me Dumbo. It hurt to be made fun of. I didn’t enjoy looking different. But the message of the movie was that what make you different can be what makes you strong. Different can mean special, and I was comforted by this concept as a kid.
It became my favorite movie and I could relate to Dumbo’s outsider feeling. I still have the stuffed Dumbo that I slept with as a child. This movie remake is one that I cannot miss! It means so much more to me than just another Disney movie. It is a pipeline to my childhood. Thanks Tim Burton!
As I prepare to watch it now, I’m sure it will have all new meaning to me now as an adult and a mother. I know I’m going to cry during the storyline of Dumbo being taken away from his mother. It’s incredible how the same story can affect you differently at certain points of your life.
Get excited!
There are so many ways to get pumped for this movie! In my house, we bought little elephant cookie cutters, made sugar cookies and decorated them.
Here is how they came out!
I also let my kids play with my old stuffed animal Dumbo from my childhood! Yes, this is the real one I had when I was younger. I slept with it every night. Here is a similar, almost exact replica!
Dumbo will be released March 29, 2019

Ha! Can’t wait to see Danny Devito back in action on this one. I have always been a fan of disney. Not sure if it is the glitter and excitement of how fantasy comes to life. Or if it is just the pure magic of childlike entertainment.
Oh yes Salona, I think the “fantasy come to life” is the biggest draw for me. I love the magic of the screen and no one does it like Disney.
This is so exciting! I can’t wait to watch this 🙂 I love all these new live-action versions of the classics!
Me too! It’s like all our classic childhood favorites done over again with our favorite actors. It’s like these movies have grown up with us (Christopher Robin, Mulan, Dumbo, Little Mermaid, Nutcracker.)
This is going to be cool! Anything by Tim Burton is interesting and I will probably actually be able to talk my husband into seeing it. Especially since it’s not animated. Can’t wait.
I agree, anything Tim Burton is amazing to watch. It’s like visual candy on screen. Yeah, having a Disney quality movie that is NOT animated will get a lot more adults to the theaters.
Dumbo is one of my favorite stories, and mores now since I have experienced an African safari. Looking forward to this movie, and I love the poster!
I would love to hear more about your african safaris. I’ve read a few of your blog posts. How incredible. I can see why it would develop a love for elephants.
This movie looks like it will be excellent. I’m so excited because I really loved the older versions.
I am so close to the original. I hope it’s a beautiful remake of the tale.
I want to watch this but I just can’t bring myself to do it yet! I know I am going to bawl my eyes out!
right? I even cry in the trailer!
I absolutely LOVE that Tim Burton is doing Dumbo. I loved the trailer and can’t wait for the film to finally be released!
YES! 1000x YES! I love that Tim Burton took on this movie! It needs his whimsy
I’m excited for this movie when it releases in March!
same here!
Wow, that’s amazing they decided to make a reboot of Dumbo. I am so happy to see Colin Farrell, he is so talented and he is one of my favorite actors! Just watched the trailer and can’t wait to watch the movie!
He IS a good actor, I love the accent he chose for this movie.
These photos look great! My daughter loves the animated Dumbo and we absolutely can’t wait for this film to come out!
Ooh – never grow up is my motto (mostly!) Meg. Thanks for the run-down – great input!
haha yes! It’s a wonderful motto to live by! You do it well!
