Deep in the jungles and seas of Disney’s Magic Kingdom AdventureLand, there is a fantastic ride called “Pirates of the Caribbean”. Many people ride this ride, enjoy it, exit the ride and play in the pirate themed gift shop. The gift shop is so fun, complete with eye patches, swords and clever little pirate saying t-shirts. FYI there are also some of the cleanest cutest bathrooms just to the left of the gift shop when you exit the ride. Pirates is a water ride, and for some reason, water rides always inspire to me have to pee! But I digress, so back to the cute gift shop! There is a secret little feature that most people don’t know about. It is not advertised, but it’s one of the most unique souvenirs you will find in all of Magic Kingdom!
In the center of the Pirates of the Caribbean Gift shop, there is a small stand with a bunch of hand painted coconuts. Most of them have a handprinted sunset scene that reads “Greetings from Walt Disney World” on one side. On the opposite side is a painted white box with a “To: and From:” section. Just pay $15.99 for the coconut, fill out the mailing information in the “To” and “From” sections. Then decorate the coconut with pictures or write a cute message all over the coconut! Pay a flat $4 for shipping and handling. Turn it back in at the cashier and they will take care of the rest. So thats a $20 total to send the most unique travel gift your friends have ever seen! Just imagine the mesmerized look on your friends faces! I sent one to my kids from Mickey Mouse. It was a big hit! If you are looking for a cute alternative to a postcard to send to your friends and family – this is it!
Right now our little coconut is resting comfortably on top of our Maine trip shrine in our little gallery wall in the living room. Every cool destination we travel to, we like to bring home something unique to remember the trip by.
p.s. There a couple of other places in the Walt Disney World resort where you can customize and mail a coconut from: The Bou-Tiki store at the Polynesian Resort and the Calypso Trading Post at the Caribbean Beach Resort.

Such a cute post! I actually work/live in the theme park industry and absolutely love seeing great stories like these!
This is such a unique souvenir idea. People would love to get this in the mail, especially if they love fresh coconut! I’m looking for these (and the cool bathroom) the next time we ride Pirates!
I’m a ‘Meg’ too! 🙂 Very cute pictures and what a neat alternative to a post card! xoxo Meaghan
