Cirque du Soleil Drawn to Life Review
This show opens on a scene that is familiar and relatable. We are all looking for answers about life through our parents. We seek our purpose through them before learning to fly on our own. Drawn to Life speaks to that relatable part inside all of us.
Without giving too much away (because I really want you to come and see it for yourself), here’s more about the show…
Drawn to Life displays every art form imaginable. It shows the artistic and physical limits of the human body.
I did not know human bodies could do those things, be so fluid or move together so synchronized. WHO CHOREOGRAPHED THESE DRAMATIC ACROBATICS? IT WAS MIND BLOWING!
Drawn to Life is beyond the limits of humanity, heart and the imagination. At some points, I couldn’t make sense of the reality of the scenes. How were those objects moving? How is this possible? It is magic? It must be.
When my daughter asked me about it, I told her there were magical fairies on unicycles doing ballet. That’s all she needed to hear!
Drawn to Life is ably named because it pays homage to the foundations of animation itself. It took the most basic elements of animation and brought it to life in the most wild way.
The fresh paper, the pencil, the scribbles, the crumpled discarded drawings, the eraser, the desk, the desk light, the sharpener, the basic proportions – they all had a prominent character!
It was a beautiful tribute to the origin stories that made us all fall in love with Disney in the first place. From “Steamboat Willy” to the princess love stories. From the villains, to the warrior lead characters of today – Drawn to Life celebrates each generation of animation magic.
And that’s what brings this show together. It’s a touching acknowledgement to the art of animation – but it’s so much more than that. The shows music, set, art, projections, dance, acrobatics, & acting tells a story of love. The love of a family, the passion of a talent, and how good always triumphs over evil.
Cirque du Soleil’s Drawn to Life is like nothing you have ever seen or ever will see. If you have ever been *even the slightest Disney fan*, this show will stir your emotions and leave you feeling exhilarated!
