Almost everyone is looking for a lifestyle upgrade, but it just depends on how they can make these changes. If you’re getting ready for the New Year or another lockdown has got you re-evaluating things, here are some simple things that can improve your lifestyle. We can’t all afford to hire money coaches, therapists, personal trainers, and life coaches.
But we do mostly have time and some control over our circumstances. This is where a lot of the work is going to fall to you to do. But that’s fine because it’s your life.
So what can you do from home or fit into your daily life that can start bringing you some goodness?
Meditation
You might even be bored of reading about meditation unless you are the kind of person who meditates. Millions of people have been meditating for millions of years. So it’s not a new practice. But being good at meditating doesn’t just happen overnight; you have to really practice to get the meditation down.
You might actually be surprised just how much your mind wonders when you finally start to settle down and get into meditation. You can use guided meditation and music to help your sessions flow.
Meditation has been linked to lowering anxiety and lowering stress, so it can help you overall with health and well-being.
Even as little as a few minutes of meditation can give you time and space, simply breathing it will bring you back into the room; learning how to control your thoughts is a skill. You can repeat mantras, just simply lie quietly and listen to calm music, or follow a complete program.
The reason meditation is one of the best things is because you can simply do it anywhere. If you have headphones and a mobile phone you can meditate.
Health
Suppose you are always putting off going to the dentist because you’re slightly scared of them. Or perhaps you try to push off going to the doctors because you simply don’t have time to make that commitment. It’s time to ditch that. Your health is essential, and one day you may regret not taking care of it properly.
Plan for some preventative services, check your health insurance plans and your dental plans. Make sure you take any opportunities you can to exercise, and you can use it as an excuse to get some beautiful women’s athletic wear.
Food
It is not uncommon to have difficult relationships with food. In fact, it might be one of the hardest to balance things. Many of us reach for chocolate, ice cream, and other sweet snacks when we are feeling low. However, you can slip into a harmful cycle that can then be difficult to break. Something that you can add to your eating routine is some mindfulness with what you eat.
Think about where your meat, or vegetables have come from. Because most of the time, we skip reading the packets and go straight to the cooking. Research where it came from, how is the best way that you can cook it. What are some of the spices and herbs from that region that can really make this recipe sing?
Be thankful that you have it. A really big issue is that people aren’t grateful for the food that they have been able to afford because it has been so abundant for them. Being thankful for food means you have more respect for it.
Slow down when you chew your food; think about all of the different flavors in the sauces and the textures too. Enjoy each mouthful, and let it delight you. And that might be going a little bit too far for some microwave chips and chicken nuggets, but that crispy coating can be excellent too.
Learn to notice when you are comfortably full rather than overfull. When you feel overstuffed, it’s because you ate a little bit too quickly, and your body and mind miscommunicated that full signal.
Gratitude
It is very easy to fall into the trap of constantly being negative. You don’t like the weather, and you have to wear wellingtons in the rain, your raincoat isn’t as warm as your other fluffy coat. All of that negativity really sets the tone for the rest of your day, and sometimes your week. Unfortunately, many people don’t realize when they are negative, however, the people around them will.
Not only is being negative a huge drain on your own energy, but it can start to become a drain on others too. When negativity is your focus, you are going to find more negative things. Stop being grateful for what you have and what you are able to do.
Expressing thanks to people for small things is important. It not only acknowledges that they have been doing something for you or because of you, but it allows you to appreciate those actions. Some peoples love language is service, others, or gifts, and it is essential to keep that in mind.
People who actively practice gratitude to have lower blood pressure, a more robust immune system, and are generally more positive to those around them.
Gratitude is something that you can build into your daily life. Say out loud three things every morning that you are grateful to have in your life. Alternatively, you can write these things down, try to aim for between three and five different things that you are thankful for each and every day.
Initially, you might find that you feel a little bit silly; thanking for things like warm tea or socks. But over time, you will learn to see all of those small things and appreciate them. In the end, you might be surprised just how much you are thankful for.
Enriching your life is much about treating yourself gracefully and kindly and understanding what you need and what serves you. As well as understanding what doesn’t and what hurts you. Do more of the good things that make you feel great.
