Summer is coming to a close and I find myself a bit more nostalgic than usual. I have a new found desire to treasure time with my family anytime there is a new change coming. Daisy is starting kindergarten and life is moving a little too fast!
This past Sunday in efforts to spend more time together, we decided to try the Golden Corral down the road from our church. My husband and I made a pact that we would leave our phones in the car and enjoy each others company. We are both notorious for whipping out our phones to check emails or snap/edit photos. This usually results in spending more time looking at the screen than those around us. Can any other working parents relate?
As soon as we walked in I started thinking about how tired I was and I much I needed a little “pick me up”. The woman at the counter greeted us, “Hi! Welcome to Golden Corral, How many? 4? Can I get you some sweet tea?”
“Yes, please!” I answered maybe a little too quickly, “A VERY tall glass of Gold Peak Tea!” The lady at the counter smiled and looked at my two toddlers spinning in circles beside me. I felt like she knew I needed something refreshing with caffeine.
I took my first sip as my kids found a quiet booth in the corner. I thought to myself, “This is going to get me through the afternoon.”
“Gold Peak Tea has an authentic fresh-brewed taste and is a delicious beverage pairing for a meal.”
I think we tasted a little bit of everything and then topped it all off with some ice cream cones.
Ok, let me pause the story and be honest with you. I’ve never been to a Golden Corral. Maybe it showed because two different people stopped to ask us where we were from. “We’re new in town.” I answered.
The best part of the meal was the fact that I remembered to bring my new Insta-mini polaroid camera. Instead of breaking out my phone, we all took turns taking polaroids of each other. It was a really nice time to unplug and capture candid moments of togetherness. I don’t know how much time we will have altogether. Life can be so unpredictable. But that day, that hour, was ours. We have the captured moments to prove it!
Thank you Golden Corral, our sweet server Janet and Gold Peak Tea for being my “mommy fuel” for the afternoon!
I really want to encourage other parents to purposely put technology away for a few hours at a time. Enjoy the moment together with your kids, grand kids, fur babies, friends, or any loved ones – disconnect to better connect. #MyGoldPeak #CollectiveBias

This sounds like a lovely time spent with your family, Meg. It’s so important to remember to treasure those moments as life can move very fast!
Amen Heather. Thanks for stopping by. I try and try to treasure these times.
Oh, we have this rule, too it’s a great one! Family time means family time, no phones! I love Golden Corral as well, we’ve been going there since I was little. I love their mashed potatos and the ice cream bar, of course lol. I’ve never tried Gold Peak Tea, I definitely will now!
I love you Stephanie! I want to adopt this rule!!!! You gotta try this tea, girl.
This is great! I have been needing to unplug. Even if it is to enjoy time with my pet dog! I am also now craving Gold Peak Tea! Hahah
It’s so hard as a blogger or work from home employee. It doesn’t help that social media is engineered to be addicting! lol. But the time spent with my kids and the feedback they give me , make me realize how much they crave our attention and eye contact.
I love this so much! We always try to be intentional about this too, sometimes we succeeed. Other times, not quite haha.
It’s hard as a blogger! I want to keep emails and comments and responses up to date. I hate to respond to emails hours and hours later.
