Sharing is caring!

The minimalist lifestyle comes with all sorts of benefits that seem obvious on the surface, but there are a number of health benefits that you might not even consider. If you are on the fence about going minimalist or you just want to convince your friends to try it out, here are some of the healthy reasons minimalists really thrive.

1. Fewer Pests in the House

Insects and other pests need places to hide if they are going to live in your home with you. If you take the minimalist approach, however, there won’t be as much clutter and stuff everywhere. That gives pests fewer places to hide out, so they are less likely to find your home appealing. A minimalist home tends to have fewer pests than a cluttered home, simply because the pests don’t like the clean, sparse surroundings, says Annie with ImagineMaids. There are fewer cubbyholes and fewer shadows for them to hide in, so they may just go somewhere else. With fewer pests around, there are lower risks for disease and illness. There will be fewer allergy triggers as well and better air quality too.

2. Easier to Clean

A home with fewer items in it is going to be simple to clean. There are not as many things to move around, and you don’t have to clean around and under so many objects. It takes you less time to clean your home, so you are more likely to keep it looking tidy. That’s great for your health, because a tidy home will reduce your health risks in a lot of ways. There will be fewer allergens, less bacteria, fewer pests, and fewer irritants. You will be able to breathe easier, sleep better, and feel better.

Even with a tidy, minimalist home, you may want to have a professional do some of the cleaning for you. To keep your home clean when you are unable to or to simply help get all those house chores done, why not hire a maid company occasionally? The health benefits of a clean home will be even better if you have the place professionally cleaned every so often.

3. Less Clutter, Less Stress

Did you know this one already? A lot of people talk about the mental health benefits of having a minimalist home, where there is very little clutter to deal with. It’s worth reminding you, though, if you want to know why you feel better when you adopt this lifestyle.

Clutter creates stress in subtle ways. Even if you would not call yourself a “neat freak”, clutter will create unconscious stress for you. By keeping the house clean and uncluttered, you will have more serenity. Your mind likes order and neatness, even if your body feels too tired to make that happen. By minimizing how much clutter is in the house, you will feel more at ease. This is especially true for any work areas of the house. If you have a room you use for studying or a place for kids to do homework, you want to keep it tidy. That holds true for home offices and anywhere that you work from home. Keeping these areas neat helps you to focus easier and makes the work less stressful. It may not be the work that is stressing you but the mess.

4. More Energy

Do you feel tired often? You will have more energy to work with if you have less stuff in the house. Think about it- if there are fewer pieces of furniture to move around and fewer items to put away, you will not have to spend as much time tidying and putting things in their spot. Fewer shoes mean less mess and fewer shoes to tidy up when you do tidy. There will be fewer tripping hazards to clean up and less stuff to accumulate dust.

I’m just giving you some general idea of what it will be like when you go minimalist, but I think you can already see how this lifestyle might give you more energy to work with. Like I mentioned in the last point, you will have less stress, and that means more energy for you as well since stress is an energy drainer.

The stuff in our lives can drain our energy. The more things we are attached to, the more we feel like we need to spend time with them. Just the thought of all those things we are connected with can be draining on our energy, and it can be freeing to get rid of some of it and detach. You will have more time to do the things that you love and will spend less time worrying about getting value for your money and using all of the things that you own.

5. Better Mental Outlook

Our mental health is incredibly important, and one of the ways we nurture that aspect of us is to focus on the things that matter most. If we split our focus across too many things, then we will feel guilty, tired, and stressed. By cutting some unnecessary things out of your life, you will improve your mental outlook and your attitude. You will enjoy better mental health and have an easier time adopting a great attitude.

There are many reasons why that happens when we talk about the benefits of the minimalist lifestyle. The reasons can be different for many people, and once you try it for yourself, you can start to list your own reasons. For some people, it is the extra free time that this lifestyle gives them. For others, it is letting go of the things of the past that pull them down or remind them of unpleasant things. For other people, it may be the money they save and how that reduces stress and worry and helps them to feel freer.

The health advantages of going minimalist are incredible. I have only touched on some of them here, but were there any that you didn’t know about already? Share them with me in the comments below.
