This year is unlike any other most people have ever experienced, and this winter is no exception. Thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic people will be spending more time in their homes than they would usually this winter, so it’s important to be prepared for that. While people do generally spend time at home in the winter as it’s colder outside, this year there won’t be any of the usual festive celebrations such as pantomimes, family parties or Christmas markets, so what do you need to do to get ready for a different kind of winter?
Protect Your Home
Start by sorting out the exterior of your home and make sure it’s ready for the colder weather. Fix any repairs you may need to such as windows, your roof and according to tips from Animal Control Specialists, you should check the inside and outside of your home carefully to repair any damage that could allow animals in. Secure everything you can so that you keep warm and safe and so that you won’t be fixing these things in the cold weather.
Put Your Summer Stuff Away
You won’t be needing your summer clothes, sandals, beach toys, picnic blankets, outdoor chairs and tables and camping things for a while now, so why not make some room in the house and clear them out. If you don’t have enough storage at home, then you could get a self-storage unit or if you don’t need that then some vacuum bags could work to make space and keep your things safe until you need them again.
Organize outside lighting and heating
While it’s going to be colder outside, because of COVID if you want to entertain, then you might have to do it outdoors and at a safe distance. Kit your garden out with plenty of lights; you can use useful ones so you can actually see where you’re going but also some decorative lights such as fairy lights in your trees or multicoloured lights on the roof. Heating is also essential if you’re going to be having people round this winter, so either get yourself a good fire pit or some outdoor heaters or both. Also, stock up on blankets for you and your guests.
Treat Yourself To New Accessories
If you’re going to be spending more time indoors, then you’re going to want to be happy and comfy. If there are jobs that need doing indoors, then, of course, get them fixed, but if not and you fancy a change then treat yourself to new cushions and throws. You could get some gorgeous Christmas prints on pillows and blankets which will not only look amazing, but they’ll keep you warm and cosy too when you’re stuck inside watching films or reading books. You could even get new Christmas duvets, tea towels and bathroom towels also to get you in the mood for the festive season and these will work really well when it’s time to put up your Christmas decorations up too.
