Oh, is there anything better than setting forth on an awesome traveling adventure? You’re waking up, exploring somewhere new and exciting, meeting people — it’s great. And the beautiful thing is that everyone starts at the same point. There’ no preparation that can ensure you know everything before you land. You’re just as clueless as everyone else! The first time at least. Once you’ve got the basics under your belt, you’ll be on your way to being a little more experienced. You’ll stand out more, or at least you will if you make a little bit of effort. Below, we take a look at a few ways you can stand out from the crowd in a sea of fellow travelers.
Learn the Language
If you’re a native English speaker, then the biggest and best way to show that you’re not a usual traveler is to speak the local language. If you’re able to say, speak Spanish when you visit Spain or South America, then you’ll get access to a whole new side of the country. Indeed, they say that if you can speak Spanish, then you really visit South America twice. Of course, you can’t be expected to speak Hungarian if you’re only spending a few days in Hungary. In that case, a few words and key phrases will help.
Off the Beaten Path
Travelers talk about the world being a large and open place, but in reality, it seems like people only ever visit a handful of places. Even in America, the vast majority of the country is left untouched by travelers. People focus on the major cities and National Parks. Anywhere, USA is overlooked. But who says there’s not something charming there? Many people read guidebooks and look up the top attractions online. You can differentiate yourself by doing your own thing, and decide for yourself what’s valuable in these less visited destinations.
Get the Look
How about making an impression without even opening your mouth? It’s possible if you have the right look. Before setting off on your travels, invest in some new attire. You’re leaving the humdrum of everyday life behind, so this is your chance to push the boat out and get a little more creative with your style. You’ll want to dress for the climate that you’re visiting, so make sure the most of accessories. You can shop gold belly button rings, sunglasses, hats, and other accessory items to help you stand out from the crowd. Plus, you’ll feel super confident and ready to get involved when you know that you look so awesome, too.
Get Involved
One of the complaints that locals have about tourists is that they can sometimes treat their home like a zoo. They just turn up, and hope to be entertained by all that’s there. This makes sense, but it’s not the only way to do things. Rather than just absorbing the spectacle, get involved, and contribute to creating an interesting or fun atmosphere. It’ll enrich your experience, and the destination in general.
