Sick of being stuck in a routine, doing the same things day in, day out? Does it feel like life is passing you by, each week, month and year being the same old stuff on repeat? It’s time to make a change, here are three ways you can get out of your rut.
Meet new people
Meeting new people as an adult is hard. We’re not out partying and socialising as much as we were when we were younger, we tend to have less hobbies and generally follow a daily routine which limits the amount of new people we come into contact with. To meet new people, you need to do new things. Join friendship and meetup apps. Take on some new hobbies, generally push yourself out of your comfort zone. Speaking to new people broadens your mind, especially if these people are very different to you (perhaps they’re much older/ younger/ from a different background, etc). It helps you to see situations from a new perspective and generally learn and grow. Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there, you could form genuine, lasting friendships that make life better in so many ways.
Solo travel
Travel is fun and exciting but it’s also nerve wracking. Being in a new part of the world where you don’t speak the language and don’t fully understand how things operate can make you feel a lot like you’re a child again. But again, it’s these experiences that help you to grow. As you learn to navigate your way around you build confidence, and doing it alone proves this even further. You return home after solo travel feeling like if you can do that, you can do anything. Start small, a weekend away or a mini break for your first trip and then work your way up to longer adventures.
Work on your appearance
This might seem like an odd addition to a list titled ‘ways to genuinely make life better’ but it’s definitely worth a mention. The way you look really does affect the way that you feel, and if you’re often held back because you’re insecure then making changes for the better could be the way to go. Maybe you’re embarrassed of your crooked smile- an appointment at the dentist and orthodontist can put you on track. Perhaps you don’t like your physique- if so some weights such as leg and arm toning workouts along with cardio will help you to sculpt your body. Maybe you just feel a little plain- a trip to the hairdressers and a new makeup look will work wonders. It’s not about being shallow or vain, it’s about making the most of what you have so that you feel confident enough to grab life by the horns and say ‘this is me’ rather than shy away.
