Yes, there is such a thing as having a home that’s too minimalist. Sometimes it can just seem a little bit empty, and rather like a storage room holding a few items, than a home that has been beautifully constructed around the concept of minimalism. The concept involves the theory that less is more, and you can create some amazing interior design looks by keeping the amount of things you put in your home on the smaller side of things. You don’t need to fill a room with item after item, and it’s often so much nicer to look at when it’s not so cluttered. But we really do think there is a difference between a home being minimalist, and just looking empty and cold. Because it’s often the features of a room that are going to bring it to life, and if you have too few, there’s obviously going to be no life in the room. So, we want to explore when the line is drawn in minimalism, and how you can ensure your home has the perfect balance.
When Your Home Is Just Too Big
We think that this is the main problem that people have within their home when trying to complete this look. If you have a super big home, yet you fill it with the bare minimum to try and get the minimalist look, it just ends up looking super empty instead. Not only that, but trying to manage a home that’s just too big for you is pointless. There comes a time where you have to think practically, and wonder whether a smaller home is going to be the one for you. Companies such as William Pitt can help you decide whether moving to a smaller home would be the better option, and could tell you how much you’d be able to get for the space you’ve got at the minute! We really think that if you are going to go for this look, it does work better in the smaller home.
A Bare Room
A bare room is definitely the outcome of a failed minimalist room. It can then lead to a feeling of cold, dark, and a lack of the homely touch. There might only be a few items in the room, they might be metal or wood based which doesn’t add much contrast to the room, and some people go as far as to have no flooring at all, and simply paint the concrete underneath. Now, this really is a great look, we won’t deny that. But it is only a great look when the rest of the room has been thought out perfectly, and we often find that people don’t achieve it.
Perfecting The Look
To get the look right, you have to get the perfect balance of colours, textures, and filling the room to the right level. It’s about keeping the essentials in, without clogging the room up. So for example, let’s give you a living room. The flooring could be laminate, as we think this works best with this look. A two seater sofa, with a single seat is perfect for the seating area. A nice coffee table to center the room, with a rug by the fireplace or resting under the coffee table. A stand for the TV, and an indoor plant in the corner of the room will complete the look!
