No matter how long you have been a mom, there is no getting away from the fact that you don’t get away from it. You are always a mom, no matter how old your children are, and no matter how physically distanced you are from your children. Whether it’s getting stressed on the school run, trying the plan the future with an education financial planner, keeping on top of the family appointments, or going to school performances, there is always something on your list of mom tasks.
But in order to be the best mom that you can be, you need to make sure that you’re not running on empty. Parenting, as well as the rest of what life throws at you, is hard. And you’re not going to be able to help your children as much as possible, if you are exhausted and just generally down and worn out.
It can be easy to remember that we are still normal human beings. Having some regular blocks of time where we can refuel, rest, and re-energize is important. However, as a mom, it can certainly be easier said than done. We can put ourselves as a last priority as there are so many other things that need to be done. Which is why you have to schedule in the time and force it. It can be hard to put yourself first sometimes, but for the family and for our children, we need to from time to time. So here are some simple ways that you can make time for yourself.
Find a Happy Place
Knowing somewhere that you love and want to be is important. Of course, it can’t always be on a sunny beach with a pina colada in hand, but it could be sitting at the park with a coffee for ten minutes as the children play. It could be taking a nap, listening to a podcast like the Not For Lazy Moms one, or having a walk alone around your neighborhood. Find something simple that can be done easily, that makes you happy, and gives you a small amount of time to just be you. When it is simple and something that can be done every day, it can be done more often.
Pursue Your Hobbies
One of the last things that you will want to do is become a parent that has nothing that they enjoy doing when the children have grown and flown. It can also make you resentful if all you do is give and give, and have nothing left of the person you were before being a mom. Which is why finding a hobby that you love is important. When you have something that you love to do, you will make time to do it. It could be something like running or other exercise, or perhaps baking and decorating cakes. You might enjoy reading, crochet, or crafting. No matter what it is, make time for it so that you can explore and enjoy your passion.
Go to the Car
This is something that will work if your children are smaller, but sometimes, you all just need to get in the car. Heading for a little drive, in order to get some of the children to sleep can be much needed. Then, you can sit and read, scroll online, or take a nap yourself. You’ve got to do what you’ve got to do, momma.
