This is the last night at our current apartment. It is bitter sweet to be moving. I am looking foreword to what the new place has to offer. A better view, a newer kitchen, more space. But the nostalgia of this old place hits me hard. I think I’m a more sentimental person than most. This apartment was where Walt took his first few steps. It’s where I sat at my desk and made my 2016 resolutions. It’s where my life changed for the better. It was the bend in the road that brought sunshine to my path. I love it here. But the short lease is up and it’s time for an upgrade.

As I reflect on missing this place I think about my two year old. How will this effect her? How can I protect her and make this a beautiful memory? With all my decisions in life I TRY to selflessly consider how it will effect my kids. Because it always will. Good or bad.
TIPS FOR AN EMOTIONALLY SMOOTH MOVE WITH KIDS:
-Preview. We took daisy to the new place and explained that this will be our new home soon. It’s the same neighborhood thankfully. But we showed her “the coffee maker store” (Starbucks) across the street and her new pool and all the things she has to look foreword to. So she can anticipate the change and not fear it
-Involve them in the packing. We had Daisy help pack all her clothes and shoes. Then her toys. It was explained that we are only transporting them and she will unpack them in her new space. She liked the ownership aspect of HER OWN box and throwing all the items inside. I thought it was super cute.
-Say your Goodbyes. Closure is important. But even more so for little ones. Let them say goodbye to their room, where they take a bath, where they eat meals, where they play. Then show them where they will be doing these daily activities in the new place. So they feel that nothing is lost, but a new “fun” place is to be gained.
? besitos to your little ones.
Protect their little hearts as this beautiful life evolves.
