This past weekend I received a very exciting email from The Geekly Show inviting me to the 2019 Geekly Retreat! You’re probably reading this and thinking, What is the Geekly Retreat? Is it one of those “invite-only” crazy Disney conferences like Disney Social Media Moms Celebration? Or Disney Creator Days? So close! Let me explain…
What is the Geekly Retreat?
The Geekly Retreat is an annual retreat for bloggers. It is invite-only! You must apply to get invited. It is 3 days of workshops, interviews with actors, discussions with filmmakers, networking with entertainment writers, press days with animation studios, and SO MUCH MORE! This year 2019, the retreat will take place November 6th through the 9th.
Meg the Entertainment Blogger
I cannot describe to you the feelings I experienced when I opened that email and read the retreat agenda! I had applied a few months before and had my fingers crossed when I pressed that “SUBMIT” button!
I was in Asheville at my sisters house. The house was filled with family from all over the country and we were celebrating my newphews 2nd birthday. I should not have been on my phone, but I picked it up and opened my email to check my eBook sales. As soon as I saw the email I ran over to my husband Alex. He replied, “Congrats, you deserve it!”
I have a huge passion for entertainment writing. If you click around this site you’ll find some movie reviews, Emmy nomination predictions, and my experience walking the red carpets of Hollywood movie premieres. I love movies. I love television and I want to share it with you!
Where I Came From
My background is not in graphic design, website building or journalism. I studied in the medical field and I have a bachelors in nursing. I have been a nurse for the last 10 years. My specialty is cardiovascular and I loved it. I loved it until I was burnt out and needed a break.
In 2015 I had a very rough year where I came to grips with my perfect life falling apart. I sold everything, was planning a divorce (thankfully never got divorced!), the majority of my friends took sides and it wasn’t mine. I was left at my lowest with a toddler, a newborn, no money, no job and a wiser outlook on life. I had to rebuild.
How MegForIt.com was Born
Part of rebuilding was finding my art. I loved to write. I loved to photograph. I drowned myself in my own artistic interests and what came out the other side was my blog: megforit.com. It went live January 1st of 2016. It was all mine to nurture and grow.
I am happy to say that with dedicated hard work, over the course of 3 years, I am here now. I make a modest living, I have been featured on the CBS Morning Show Morning Break, published on Macaroni Kids, wrote 3 successful eBooks, I am Disney Social Media Moms Alumni, I have designed my own clothing line with Yes We Vibe and I am now invited to the Geekly Retreat in Burbank, California.
