Valletta is Malta’s tiny but mighty capital city, and it’s crammed full of historical treasures just waiting to be discovered. Stroll through the city’s beautiful Baroque streets, visit its many museums and churches, and make sure to climb to the top of St. John’s Co-Cathedral for incredible views over Valletta and its harbour. You can easily spend a day or two exploring this fascinating city.
In particular, the Valletta Waterfront with stunning views of the harbour, plenty of restaurants and bars, and plenty of things to see and do. Mdina
Mdina is a small walled city located in central Malta. Once known as the ” Silent City,” Mdina was the country’s capital until the 16th century when Valletta took over that title. Today, Mdina is a popular tourist destination thanks to its well-preserved architecture and tranquil atmosphere. Be sure to wander through Mdina’s narrow streets, pop into its cute cafes and shops. Visit the Mdina Dungeons for a spooky experience and explore the Mdina Cathedral, which is one of the most beautiful churches on the island.
Gozo Island
Gozo Island is a small island located off the coast of Malta. It’s known for its beaches, cliffs, and caves. Some of the most popular things to do on the island are swimming in the Blue Lagoon, exploring Ggantija Temples (which are some of the oldest temples in the world), and hiking up to Dwerja Point for panoramic views of Gozo Island and beyond.
If we were to sneak another suggestion into this blog, we would also recommend The Three Cities. The Three Cities are a group of three fortified cities located in the Grand Harbour area of Malta. They are Birgu, Senglea, and Cospicua. Each city has its own unique charm, so be sure to explore all three. Birgu is home to many museums and galleries, Senglea has great views of the harbour, and Cospicua is known for its traditional Maltese architecture.
