Nursing is an incredibly fulfilling occupation, but it can also be incredibly stressful, upsetting, and exhausting. Because of this, it is incredibly important to ensure that you take care of yourself and make your health and happiness a top priority. Maintaining the right work-life balance can be a lot of work, but it is worth it and will help you to continue to do the job that you love. Here are some tips to help you get it right.
Look After Your Feet
This tip should be obvious, but it is so important that I couldn’t not include it. As a nurse, you will constantly be on your feet, often for many hours a day without a break. For this reason, it is so important to take proper care of your feet, or you could end up seriously damaging them. Your first step is buying some comfortable nurse shoes to wear each day. Regular pedicures are also a must, and if your feet are constantly in pain, be sure to see a doctor.
Eat Right Everyday
When you’re working all hours of the day and don’t know when you’ll be getting a break or getting home each day, it can be easy to let things like eating properly slide. However, the food you eat is the difference between feeling sluggish and feeling energized, so it’s important that you get it right. If you don’t have the time or energy to cook, then order a keto food delivery. You’ll only have to heat up the food, rather than prepare it, and will still be getting all the healthy goodness.
Get Some Shut Eye
When you work different length shifts at different times each day, your body can get confused and doesn’t know when it should be sleeping and when it should be awake. This can make it hard to fall asleep when you actually need to. To make this easier, try investing in some blackout curtains or blinds, so that your room is always dark, no matter what time you go to sleep. Avoiding your phone and caffeine before bed is also sensible.
Allow Yourself To Grieve
As a nurse, you are going to experience some heartbreaks. You will work with some patients for months, so you are going to form a bond. This means that, if any of these patients pass away, you are going to naturally be upset. When this happens, allow yourself to grieve by attending the funeral or sending the family some flowers.
Do Something Fun
Working as a nurse can be stressful and sometimes even heartbreaking, so it’s important to do something to take your mind off this once you’ve finished work or have a day off. This could be anything, such as taking a relaxing bath, watching your favorite show, meeting up with friends, or even skydiving. As long as you enjoy it and you’re not thinking of work, then it’s right.
Nursing is amazing, but it can get tough at times too. Hopefully, the tips above will help to keep you happy and healthy through the best and worst of times.
