Your own personal style. It’s as individual to you as your fingerprint. But after time, or maybe after kids, or a stressful time, or, say, a global pandemic, you can lose your grip on what that style is for you. Sneakers or high heels? Jeans or skirts? Do you really know the origin of the cape?
So, if you’re looking for tips and tricks to help you revamp your personal style, then read on to discover how.
Reassess your wardrobe
First stop: your wardrobe. These clothes once brought you joy and made you feel seen, so, what’s happened? Maybe what you’re looking for is already there. So, to make sure that you’re not making unnecessary, expensive, and potentially wasteful purchases, then now’s the time to do some shopping in your own wardrobe. Give yourself the time and space to take everything out and give it a good look. Play some music and have fun trying on some pieces that you have loved in the past, and seeing if you can pair them in new and exciting ways. Your sense of style might just be hiding in your own closet.
Find new inspiration
If you find that your own wardrobe isn’t cutting it, then try taking a look around you. And it doesn’t have to just be people you know, you can take inspiration from anywhere. Check out street style blogs, social media, and the big fashion magazines. You might even find inspiration in books and films! There’s nothing wrong with emulating style icons that walk across your TV. Ask yourself, whose style do you admire? What do you like about it? How do you think that would look on you? By asking yourself these questions, you’ll discover what you like, and how you can try it out for yourself.
Go professional
There are reasons that celebrities get stylists – they take the stress out of getting dressed. This option may not be as luxurious as you think. Sure, some stylists cost thousands of pounds, but some can be found online. Websites like Stitch Fix will hook you up with a stylist who will pick out clothes depending on your needs, your style, and your budget. Then, all you need to do is try on your clothes and keep the ones you like. Problem solved!
Look back in time
Fashion is (shockingly) always repeating itself. You may find yourself drawn to the flares of the 1970s, or the flowing skirts of the 1870’s! Whatever floats your boat. There are no rules, so you’ve got to wear what makes you happy. If that’s clothing that looks like it’s from a different century, then you do you!
Hopefully, this has provided you with a little bit of inspiration for what you could do to revamp your personal style. The main thing to remember is that however you feel like dressing is right – you’re in charge of how you dress, and if you don’t love it, don’t wear it. Inspiration comes in waves, so this could just be a dip.
