The Florida Keys are a series of islands that run from the southernmost tip of Florida to Key West. They’re known for their beautiful, bright blue waters, cultural places and fun and laidback activities. People come from all over the world to the Keys to experience this and it’s also why we love coming back!
If you’re looking for a vacation spot that will relax and rejuvenate you, I recommend heading down to the Keys.
Where to Stay
My husband and I love to go to this one particular resort, it’s called the Coral Bay Resort. It’s not a super fancy luxury resort but it is perfect for families. It’s a cute and small resort and I think it is the best to stay in for families because it’s like an Airbnb type of accommodation where you have your own room, living room, dining room and your own little kitchen.
Another thing I love about The Coral Bay Resort is that they have their own little private beach. If you’ve ever been to the Keys, you know that the islands are home to an abundance of coral reefs, which means there aren’t many sandy coastlines for miles. That’s why we love that the Coral Bay resort has a private stretch of beach we can enjoy!
They also have a wrap-around dock, a fishing area, a heated swimming pool and snorkeling areas where you can bring your kayaks. They have this little tiki bar which for me was our favorite place to go for sunrises and sunsets.
What to Do in the Florida Keys
The Keys offer something for everyone. Here are my top places to visit in Islamorada and Key West.
Robbie’s in Islamorada
Robbie’s is a must visit in Florida Keys. There are lots of exciting things to do here like feeding the tarpon. Feeding them is an experience that you will not want to miss! It was so exhilarating and the kids loved it. They also have a show of the tarpon feeding frenzy if you want to just sit back and enjoy the spectacle.
Robbie’s has some flipping cool handcrafted souvenirs at their local shops so I suggest doing some shopping here. Head over to the little café after, grab a tropical drink and try the Lower Matecumbe fish sandwich – it’s super fantastic.
If you want to do some water activities, there are lots you can choose from like fishing, kayaking, parasailing and sunset cruises.

Theater of the Sea
Located at 84721 overseas highway in Islamorada, this unique attraction brings together all of the best elements of a stunning visit – a lagoon-side beach, beautiful wildlife, and fun, family-friendly activities.
Theater of the Sea is a marine life park and educational facility that is home to a wide variety of sea creatures, from dolphins and sea lions to sharks and rays. You can interact with the animals during guided tours and feedings, or simply enjoy watching them swim and play. There’s also a “swim with the dolphins” program if you want to get even closer to these amazing creatures.

Islamorada Beverages
Islamorada Beverages is the perfect place to enjoy a family friendly beer garden. They have a wide variety of beers on tap including local favorites.
The beer garden also features a variety of food trucks so you can enjoy a delicious meal with your beer. I recommend the coconut shrimp (they were the best I ever had) & the Guava Pineapple Limeade!

Truman Waterfront Park
My favorite park in all of Key West is the Truman Waterfront Park. It’s a spectacular green space that boasts the stunning natural beauty of the Florida Keys. There’s a huge playground right on the water which your kids will surely enjoy.
Come by here on a Thursday for their weekly farmers market. It’s actually not just a farmers market, it’s also like an international food festival every Thursday. They’ve got cheese, produce, exotic fruits, plants and fresh seafood! You can find everything you need to create a delicious meal and you can also enjoy international cuisine at one of the many takeaway stalls.
Mallory Square
Another cool little spot inside of Key West is Mallory Square. I highly recommend visiting. Do not leave Key West without at least exploring the area of Mallory Square.
This vibrant square is home to museums, shops and restaurants. You can stroll through the streets and enjoy the Florida Keys sunshine and the vibrant colors of the buildings. Stop into one of the many shops to find souvenirs or explore one of the museums to learn more about the history and culture of Key West.
And be sure to save time for sunset at Mallory Square! It’s considered one of the main tourist attractions in the city. Every evening, crowds gather to watch the sun set over the Florida Keys.
Conch Fritters and Key Lime Pie are a must try in Key West. Do NOT leave without tasting some.
Ernest Hemingway Home & Museum
If you want to see a historic place, you’re going to want to see Ernest Hemingway’s house. It’s filled with fascinating artifacts from Hemingway’s life and work.
Ernest Hemingway was a very famous author and he actually wrote “The Old Man and the Sea” as an old man living next to the sea in Key West. When you go to his former home, you’re going to realize how inspirational this place is and how special this little island is. It makes sense why authors and artists would come here to create their art and be inspired.
