It can be hard to throw some things away, we build up a sentimental attachment to objects and things and stuff. Have you ever found yourself saying “I may not need it now, but I may want to use it at some point, and then you never do end up using it? I’m sure we’ve all said it at one point or the other in our lives. But it’s not long before all these things begin to accumulate, and you find yourself with a house full of crap you don’t need. Again we’ve all been there at one point or the other. You may not necessarily be a hoarder, and there may not even be a lot of things piling the shelves or lying around the house in fact your home may even seem fine to guests and visitors. But check your cupboard or closets or draws and it’s full to the brim with unwanted or no longer useful stuff. Here are some reasons why it may be time to buy a load of bin bags and clear out your clutter!
A tidy house a tidy mind
Tidiness doesn’t just mean making sure things are where they’re supposed to be, it’s also about making sure that those things are supposed to be there, to begin with. Nobody needs 30 mugs in a one-person household, how many thirsty guests are you expecting to have all at once? It can feel overwhelming managing all the stuff you have. It means more things to clean up or tidy away and can end up taking up lots of space. Decide what you value the most and get rid of what you don’t, trust me, it won’t end up coming in handy one day! You’ll feel a lot less stressed and more organised if you only keep a few things and take care of them well. It’ll also make you more appreciative and build a stronger personal board with the fewer things you own.
More space
This is an easy one. Everyone prefers having more space than not, more room to walk about, more room to sit and stand and work, more room for guests. It goes back to having a tidy mind. The more space you have the less stressful your environment can seem. Of course, not everyone is claustrophobic but that doesn’t mean cramped spaces don’t cause stress.
Moving
Moving is stressful enough as is, without having hundreds and thousands of bags of unused or useless stuff crammed into your car. Now, this is not to say you’ll be constantly moving about but especially if you’re a younger person and yet to settle down in life/family/work, then it’s likely you won’t have found you’re forever home just yet. Many people end up moving all around the country for work or school and having loads of things that you don’t need moving around with you can increase stress and the amount of work you have to do!
Final thoughts
Decluttering is also not just a one-time thing either, it’s a continual process as you continue to acquire new items. There are even apps that can help you!
