As a continuation of Yoga month, I want to share with you the importance & benefits of Yoga for kids. My 3 year has been doing Yoga with me since about a year old. She picked it up so fast and now she does it almost daily. Practicing Yoga can greatly benefit you and your child.
Here are my top 4 reason why yoga is great for kids!
- It’s exercise! Yoga is a workout, moving from pose to pose, getting your blood moving and increasing the heart rate. You use all your muscles when doing yoga. Whether you are standing, sitting, or lying down – you use large and small muscles groups build strength. It also creates flexibility which is greatly beneficial for the circulatory system.
- It helps built their confidence! We live in a crazy world these days. Home base is where your child finds their emotional stability and safety. They need to be encouraged and their confidence fed. Yoga is a wonderful tool for building confidence. It gives them a more positive self image.
- It help develop concentration & focus. With all the tv, iPad, cartoons, & video games that are out there – our children seem to be stimulated every second of the day. Away with the screens! They need to be unstimulated so that their own brain gets a chance to focus. Yoga helps kids to tap into the areas of the brain that self stimulate and increase concentration. While you improve your balance through yoga, it also improves the areas of the brain that help you stay on task and concentrate! Studies have shown that as little as 10 minutes of yoga a day helped elementary students concentrate on a subject and get better grades overall.
- It’s a bonding activity. As you go through your yoga flow, your child can follow, or vise versa! It’s quality time spent with your kids. You are taking the time to slow down, make eye contact, and interact. It’s one of the most valuable things.
There are many reasons to try Yoga, practice Yoga and introduce it to kids. But these were my top 4 reasons. I hope this inspires you to roll out your mat and start practicing. Always remember you can comment or message me if you have any questions. Stay bendy my friends!
